New Paltz resident and 1974 New York City Marathon winner Kathrine Switzer was at Monday’s Boston Marathon with her husband, Roger Robinson.
Switzer was the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon in 1967 and a photo of her being accosted on the course by the race director was named by Time-Life as one of the “100 Photos that Changed the World.”
She was working again as a race commentator for WBZ, the local CBS affiliate in Boston, while Robinson was covering the event for Runner’s World magazine.
“I am shattered and exhausted,” Switzer said Tuesday before a speech later in the day at Newbury College, which is located along the race’s homestretch in Brookline, Mass. “It’s awful.
