A bit of extra money brought in from a motivational speaker presentation in 2012 may very well save some lives .
When Dawn Marie Crouse and Lola Wright hosted ‘An Evening with Kathrine Switzer,’ a motivational talk by the first woman to run the Boston Marathon, they aimed to just break even in bringing the international speaker to Grande Prairie.
But through corporate donations and ticket sales, the pair ended up with a $4,000 surplus, which has since been used to install two new automated external defibrillators (AEDs) at St. Joseph Catholic Church on 102 Street as well as homeless shelter Rotary House, which is located just behind city hall on 97A Street.
