In the sporting world, very few have their numbers retired and hung from the rafters or otherwise displayed for all time. Only the most gifted athletic heroes generally are honoured this way. Kathrine Switzer may have taken the concept to a new level by actually having her bib number at the 1967 Boston Marathon named as the title for a women’s marathon in Spain.
