THE only all-female marathon in Europe will be run for the second time on Sunday in Palma de Mallorcaand, once again, has been organised by the first-ever woman to run the Boston version.
Kathrine Switzer, who was 20 when she entered the famous US marathon in 1967 filling in her form with her initials only – since it was strictly an all-male event back then.
She got away with it and was the only woman in the race, which she successfully completed.
Ms Switzer then began a battle to allow women to run the Boston marathon and, in 1972, managed to convince organisers to change the rules…
