Running legends Kathrine Switzer and Bill Rodgers join forces as the celebrity speakers at this classic event. But there will be a special buzz for Switzer as she will be reliving a little history here—the race director, Mike Lannon, was with Kathrine in her first ever official race where she ran with men, in 1966! This was a year before the famous Boston Marathon incident which started the women’s running movement. She’ll talk about this at the expo on Saturday at (10 – 4 PM) to be held at the Rutland Middle School Keefe Gym on Library Ave, where she and Bill will also be signing their books. On Sunday, they will either run or greet you at the start and finish. In addition to the 10K and Half, there is a 10K relay, 5K race, 5K walk and Kids Run. Kathrine Switzer has long been one of running’s most iconic figures. Not just for breaking barriers as the first woman to officially run the Boston Marathon in 1967, but also for creating positive global social change. Because of her millions of women are now empowered by the simple act of running.
