Running legend @kathrineswitzer is gearing up to rock bib number 261 on October 7!
Pairing an iconic women’s event with a lifelong advocate for women’s empowerment, Switzer is ready to hit the pavement and join thousands of women in this historic race.
Switzer’s trailblazing career began at the 1967 Boston Marathon, when she became the first woman to wear a bib number and complete the historic race. Donning bib number 261, images of Switzer’s encounter with a disgruntled race director during the event were spread globally and helped launch a revolution for women’s participation in sports. It was out of this revolution that races like the Boston 10K for Women began.
In 2016, Switzer launched @261fearless, a global non-profit committed to empowering women through running. At 76, Switzer is still a force, relentlessly working to create opportunities for women. We can’t wait to see her October 7!
